Visitor’s Question:
My friend (male) is losing so much hair, and they don’t know why. His fingernails show vertical creases and are very soft.
Now I have noticed that he only drinks about 1-2 glasses of water a day and nothing more! Could dehydration be a reason for his hair falling out?
Shuna’s Answer:
While being well hydrated is equally important as a well-balanced diet- the liquid issue will not be the reason for the hair loss.
There are various autoimmune conditions that can affect the fingernails in this way (also a diet lacking in protein) – your friend could discuss the situation with his Doctor as a thyroid, immune profile and even B12 blood test could be considered.
I would be able to decipher the type of hair loss he has visually and whether emotive issues could be the trigger. Stress and anxiety can influence the way we uptake certain vitamins. For the same reasons eyebrow hair often thins and falls, in women, there can be the occurrence of a scarring scalp condition also.
I also work on Saturdays so could easily see your friend then, you are also welcome to attend as a companion.
