Visitor’s Question:
Dear Shuna Hammocks,
My 17-year-old daughter is losing about 300 hair a day and it’s been going on for a few months now. We went to GP, did blood results and all is fine! I bought her vitamins from a health store and she had been taking for 2 months – did not help. We got professional shampoo and conditioner, a serum which was supposed to stop hair from falling out – but it is not helping. Now we are using a special spray on the scalp every day 2x a day which should stop hair from falling and supplements for hair growth but hair is still falling out a lot. We really do not know what else we can do as her hair is visibly thinning and we don’t know how to stop her from going bald. We would appreciate any advice.
Many thanks,
Concerned Mother.
Shuna’s Answer:
I’m sorry for the upset your daughter’s hair loss must be causing her. Many new patients attend for a consultation with me, with similar complaints.
Unfortunately, many people seek advice from their Doctor to no avail.
While thyroid conditions play a massive role in certain hair loss conditions in women it is not the only reason. Anxiety and stress can cause interruptions to the growth cycle, as can medication side effects and nutritional deficiencies ( amongst many more).
During an hour consultation with me, following many questions and a thorough examination of the hair and scalp, I can usually diagnose the cause and discuss all possible treatment.
Many patients feel a sense of relief after the first visit, that not only have they had the chance to talk if their concerns but also to feel I can support them through treatment with a sympathetic ear.
