Your Question
Hi Shuna,
I came to see you a few years ago with some patchy hair loss. The home treatments you prescribed me worked really well, and the problem subsided for two years.
However, recently I have noticed a small patch on my hairline at the back of my head. I hoped it would just go away on its own, but sadly it has spread. This is causing me a great deal of stress in my life at the moment, and I’m worried that this time the treatment might not work.
I would really like to come and see you again.
Thank you in advance,
Ms R.
Shuna’s Answer
Hello Ms R,
Thank you for contacting me again, it’s great that you’ve reached out about the problem.
In your particular case, I suggest we ask your GP to repeat the specific blood tests you had before. I will email you a copy of the letter I am preparing for your GP.
This time, you may need a different style of treatment involving ultraviolet therapy, in addition to topical creams and lotions for you to apply yourself at home.
I look forward to helping you again soon.
Shuna
Your Question
Hi there,
I’m really struggling with my hair loss at the moment. It’s really getting me down, everywhere I look I can see my hair: when I wash it, on my pillow, in the car, even on my computer keyboard at work!
There are no patches of hair loss, but it’s really thinning and coming out in handfuls.
I’ve been to my GP, who didn’t really seem too concerned. However, I managed to persuade him to run some general health blood tests. They came back showing my vitamin D and zinc levels were low so I am now taking supplements. However, I’m in a bit of a state and really, really worried. I would love to talk to someone like yourself who specialises in this area.
Is this something you may be able to help with?
Shuna’s Answer
Hello there,
I appreciate what an upsetting time this is for you. Hair can be extremely important for our self-esteem. If you would like to book a consultation with me, I’d be interested in seeing a copy of your recent blood tests and finding out the exact dose of what you’ve been prescribed. I suspect either some tests have been missed or their low readings been overlooked, given how significant these vitamins are to optimum hair growth.
There are specific conditions that can also cause pattern thinning, which I would be able to diagnose at the consultation.
In the meantime, please try not to worry too much. I see these conditions all the time and in most cases, I can help.
